Depuis quelques décennies, l’attrait d’un ventre plat est devenu l’une des motivations principales dans la pratique des activités physiques de remise en forme. La dynamisation, le renforcement et le contrôle de notre sangle abdominale sont les conditions majeures pour atteindre cet objectif.
Les abdominaux sont constitués de 3 couches de muscles qui ont des directions et des actions différentes et qui peuvent travailler séparément ou ensemble.
Le transverse est le muscle le plus profond, il part du dos, s’accroche sur les vertèbres, tapisse toute la hauteur de l’abdomen et a pour fonction de stabiliser le tronc.
Ensuite se trouvent les obliques constitués de 2 muscles placés de chaque coté de l’abdomen ; 1 grand et un petit ; permettant l’inclinaison et la rotation du buste.
La 3ème couche est constituée par le grand droit de l’abdomen, formé de deux bandeaux marbrés de petites séparations visibles sous la peau, avec pour fonction d’être un fléchisseur du tronc.
Bien au delà d’un aspect esthétique, les abdominaux interviennent dans la respiration, la circulation sanguine, la stimulation des organe, l’activation du transit et maintiennent les viscères qui se trouvent dans l’abdomen. Enfin, ils ont un effet protecteur du dos car lorsqu’ils sont puissants, ils jouent un rôle de gaine, aidant ainsi les muscles du dos à maintenir la colonne vertébrale en étirement. Le renforcement de la sangle abdominale représente donc une réelle nécessité anatomique.
Pour les non sportifs, la plus grande difficulté consiste à trouver des enseignements et des exercices adaptés. Trop souvent, les livres, les vidéo, les émissions sportives ainsi que la plupart des cours de culture physique s’adresse à un public déjà initié ou le débutant éprouve des difficultés pour acquérir les bases. Il en résulte souvent des défauts de posture lors du travail abdominal qui peuvent avoir des incidences sur les régions lombaires et cervicales. De plus la pratique usuelle d’un renforcement abdominal trop souvent axé sur des contractions visant à rapprocher les épaules du bassin crée une poussée vers l’avant et vers le bas.
Cette poussée fait sortir le ventre au lieu de le rentrer, ce qui ne donnera jamais un ventre plat ; pousse les organes suspendus vers le bas, d’où un risque de descente d’organe, incontinence et relâchement du périnée ; augmente le risque de hernies abdominales et inguinales ; et surtout comprime les disques intervertébraux avec risque de hernies discale, lumbagos et sciatiques.
Un travail de renforcement en position statique, applicable au travers du gainage, permet d’éviter tous ces risques, et doit être alterné avec les exercices d’abdominaux traditionnels.
Parallèlement à ce type de travail spécifique, il est tout aussi important voir supérieur de chercher à contracter et gainer nos muscles abdominaux dans tous nos gestes du quotidien. Nos différentes postures résultent essentiellement du contrôle exercé sur notre corps et surtout sur nos abdominaux qui sont des muscles centraux. Ils doivent donc être sollicités le plus souvent possible et non plus uniquement lors d’exercices spécifiques.
La connaissance des diverses fonctions de nos abdominaux devrait permettre de quitter une nécessité fondée uniquement sur un aspect esthétique afin de comprendre la réelle utilité anatomique du renforcement de la sangle abdominale, gage de bien être pour notre corps…
